Inspired by the victory of fast-food workers in New York State, child care and other underpaid workers convened wage boards in cities across the country, delivering emotional testimony to panels of local leaders and demanding $15/hour and union rights.
Tolanda, a child care worker in Raleigh, described how she is forced to live in a shelter because of her low wages. A worker in Las Vegas described all the out-of-pocket expenses required to keep her job. Kevin in Richmond talked about how $15/hour would mean respect for child care workers. And Kenya in Kansas City said that if workers can win in New York, “we know we can do it too.”
