We all recognize the importance of child care reform to the future of our country. Children deserve a chance to start off on the right path, families need a break from the high cost of care, and providers need a living wage of at least $15/hr in order to provide the best care possible. Trump’s proposed child care plan will not help alleviate the child care crisis. We deserve better; not just a giveaway to the wealthiest Americans.
“It actually doesn’t help make child care affordable for the vast majority of working families.” That’s an accurate description of Trump’s proposed child care plan from Care.com founder Sheila Marcelo. Millionaires don’t need help with their child care expenses, working families do.
Rachel Jesequel, a parent and Fight for $15 Child Care supporter, agrees that raising wages for providers must be part of any child care solution. “Our nation’s child care system is clearly broken, not only for parents but for providers as well. How can they provide quality care when they can barely afford to take care of their own children?”, she said.
