Child care worker speaks at Congressional Black Caucus event

Dawn Oneal, a child care worker from Atlanta, spoke on Congressman Keith Ellison’s panel entitled “From Ferguson to $15: The Economic Path Forward” at the Congressional Black Caucus Annual Legislative Conference.

Panelists discussed the history of massive job loss in America’s urban centers, widening income inequality, and a policy and political agenda to restore economic opportunity to these communities.

Rep. Ellison highlighted the plight of child care workers when he said that “If our children are the most precious people in our lives, you wouldn’t know it by what we pay our child care workers.” Dawn shared her struggles because she only earns $8.50/hour, but spoke about the importance of collective action and the power of the Fight for $15 movement.
