Child care tour hits 4 cities in 3 days

It was a busy week for the Fight for $15 Child Care campaign as the Child Care For All tour crisscrossed the country.

Parents, child care workers, allies, local officials, and members of the Congressional Progressive Caucus came together across the country to discuss how to fix America’s child care system.

Tuesday night, folks gathered in Tampa. On Wednesday, events took place in Detroit and Providence. Thursday, people came together in Las Vegas.

“Child care workers deserve a living wage! They’re the ones who care for our future,” said Tampa Bay City Councillor Guido Maniscalco.

Rhode Island Congressman David Cicilline lamented that the “Average child care worker earns $10.60 an hour…they just don’t make enough.”

Kimie Jones – a child care teacher and homecare provider in Detroit – told the crowd of over a hundred that “$15 would give us a living wage to provide for our family…$15 isn’t a lot. It’s a start!”

Congressman John Conyers summed up the mood of the entire tour when he said, “We want $15 an hour for child care workers, and $15 for everybody.”
